I'll have another - KENTUCKY STYLE!

No one quite believed when I’ll Have Another nipped Creative Cause in the Santa Anita Derby. They’ll believe in him now.  Saturday before a record crowd of 165,307 at Churchill Downs in Lexington, KY, I’ll Have Another ran down the highly touted Bodemeister to win the 138th Kentucky Derby by 1 1/2 lengths. The University of Kentucky championship basketball Coach John Calipari (Coach Cal) had the honor of saying, "RIDERS UP!" Coach Cal's UK team captured the school's eighth NCAA national basketball championship on April 2 with a 67-59 victory over Kansas in April. Now, what does this all have to do with ORANGE LEAF you might ask?  Well, in Kentucky (just like Louisiana), Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt is a highly valued commodity!  Not only that, but Coach Cal LOVES him some ORANGE LEAF!  Coach Cal made a quick stop by the Louisville store following the Barnstable Brown party Friday night.  Even though it was 10:30 at night, when Calipari tweeted to his 1.15 million followers that he was heading to the Bardstown Road Orange Leaf, the BIG BLUE NATION packed the house!  So, today, we here at Orange Leaf Louisiana salute our Orange Leaf KENTUCKY compadres!  Thank you sir, I'll have another!

ULL goes ORANGE

Founded in 1898 as an industrial institute, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette developed into a four-year college in the 1920s and became known by it's present name in 1999.  Does anyone still call it USL by mistake?  I know I still do sometimes, but it's less and less now with the new energy COACH MARK HUDSPETH has infused into to our town.  The football team recently received their rings from the New Orleans Bowl.  It's such a special time in Cajun Country and the atmosphere is upbeat and optimistic!

Supporting the Ragin' Cajuns while wearing your new FREAUX YEAUX shirt is going to get easy, too!

Good thing we are opening a store here in JUNE!  Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt #9 will open in Lafayette on the campus of ULL on St. Mary by Campus Copies. It will be our first venture into the express field, but we are excited about trying something different.  The construction project is going very fast, which is great, so who knows what the real open date will be. Be on the Look for ULL - Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt T-Shirts that you can wear game day!  Tailgaiting...well, that is just a surprise we have been holding on to for a bit, but it's official now!  Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt will be at ALL 6 ULL HOME GAMES!  Support ULL while wearing your ULL/Orange Leaf Shirt and receive 10% off BONUS!

Look for this in the window and you
are at the right place!

Louisiana IDOL

American Idol Season 11 contestant Joshua Ledet is one of the Top 10 finalists, singing his way into the viewers' hearts.  Joshua, 19, attended WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL in Louisiana.  Besides belting his sweet heart out, Joshua works for the police department and attends Lamar University.  If you caught the show a couple of weeks ago, you would have seen the Idol judges and Ryan Seacrest eating CRAWFISH on tv, courtesy of RANDOL's SEAFOOD in Lafayette!  Joshua tried to show Ryan how to peel them, and he looked like he had seen a ghost!
Joshua began singing at age 3 in his dad’s church, basking in the glow of the parish’s support. "It just felt so great to see all those people smiling and screaming.  I knew it was something I wanted to do the rest of my life.” Joshua has always been an Idol fan, he says in his Road to Hollywood interview. “I’ve wondered, ‘Why can’t that be me on stage, doing the same thing they’re doing?’” If you haven't had the chance to hear him sign, it's worth your time.  Tune in to American Idol on Wednesday night at 7pm to catch his smooth like butter (or Freaux Yeaux) voice and then VOTE!  Not to mention he is Louisiana born and raised! Check out his latest performance at the link below and you will see what we are talking about!

Good LUCK Joshua!  From your fans here at Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt Louisiana!

We would also like to wish everyone a very HAPPY EASTER!  We will be closed today, but open on Monday bright eyed and bushy tailed!

Why Orange?

We get the question all of the time, “Why is it called Orange Leaf?”  Honestly?  Probably because Orange is cool!  Lemon Leaf, Apple Leaf, Grape Leaf doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.  And the color orange has its own personality that other colors can’t match.  Purple Leaf?  Blue Leaf?  Doesn’t work!
So what is Orange’s personality?  According to psychologists that know about this stuff, the psychology of Orange is exactly what you think it would be.  Orange is considered the color of adventure and social communication.  The color orange radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow.  The color psychology of orange is optimistic and uplifting, rejuvenating our spirit. In fact orange is so optimistic and uplifting that we should all find ways to use it in our everyday life, even if it is just an orange colored pen that we use. Orange brings spontaneity and a positive outlook on life and is a great color to use during tough economic times, keeping us motivated and helping us to look on the bright side of life.  With its enthusiasm for life, the color orange relates to adventure and risk-taking, inspiring physical confidence, competition and independence. Those inspired by orange are always on the go!

In relation to the meaning of colors, orange is extroverted and uninhibited, often encouraging exhibitionism or, at the very least, showing-off!  The color orange relates to social communication, stimulating two way conversations. A warm and inviting color, it is both physically and mentally stimulating, so it gets people thinking and talking!
Enthusiasm, courage, stimulation, vitality, and rejuvenation are all effects of orange.  So when you look around and see the orange paint, the orange shirts, and of course the orange furniture, you know you are going to be in a good mood.  Orange is awesome!

So in my way of making lists for anything and everything I do, here is a list of my 5 coolest things that are ORANGE (besides Orange Leaf):

· The nickname for the Denver Broncos’ defense in the late 70’s was “The Orange Crush”!  That’s a cool nickname!
· The color of the wrapper for the best candy bar ever made – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, is Orange.
·The nickname of the Dutch National Soccer (Football) team is Oranje, the Dutch word for "orange”.
·Oompa  Loompas are orange!!
·The dominant color of the most fun holiday, Halloween, is Orange.

So, why Orange? Cheerful, Spontaneous, Optimistic, and Enthusiastic, capturing each of the best parts of the other colors in the rainbow. Throw a little LEAF in there for your health and who would want to  live any other way!

Life of a Leafer - the other side of the toppings bar!

Yogurt and Topping and Spoons - OH MY!

Neon orange, lime green and all the yogurt and toppings you can imagine... how could you not love working at "The Leaf"? It's kind of like working in the grand ole land of Oz or Willy Wonka's factory!
One of my favorite things each day is convincing customers, old and brand new, to try a new flavor or toppings combo than their norm and watch them enjoy a whole new yogurt adventure! I am frequently asked how I come up with some of my random combinations - like cotton candy and cheesecake with white chocolate chips! My answer is always the same... Part of doing my job well is exhaustive taste testing! I know, I know it's a huge sacrifice I make each day but somebody has to do it.

Monroe LEAFERS
celebrating Christmas!
As Leafers we get to enjoy ALL the events and crazy days here at "The Leaf".

Spencer's favorite so far was Christmas as "The Leaf" and our staff Christmas party where, yes we ate MORE yogurt!

Rachel loved our Karaoke night where she and Spencer sang Britney for everyone.

and I remember the first time my niece visited Orange Leaf and she kept spitting her sprinkles back into her cup because she didn't want to run out!

You just can't have a bad day at Orange Leaf, so come by and take a break with us leafers. We promise to help you create your perfectly yummy treat and provide you with a welcome break in your day each and every time you visit us... after all we do know all the best combos!
