Coloring HOUMA Orange!

EyeCandy Cake Creation
#7 - Houma Ribbon Cutting

It's always WINDY in Houma!  Waking up to that coastal breeze that can only be described at a blanket of humidity, the ribbon cutting of the newly opened Orange Leaf FrozenYogurt could not be dampened and was now upon us!  With our signature Orange and White polka-dot windmills at full twist, guests started arriving for our official welcoming to the Houma community.  In cooperation with the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber, the red ribbon was cut at 10:30 am (after a couple of tries!), and facility tours to see where the magic happens were given. Grand Opening Cake provided by EyeCandy Cakes of Houma was a big hit!  Putting the yummy lemon cake in the yogurt cup before getting their FREE YOGURT, was a favorite of some of the guests.

Before we knew it, it was Saturday! GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION day!  Starting off the festivities with a coloring contest was so much fun for the young and old alike.
Listening to the upbeat Disco Music, Kaylee looked at her mom and said, “ Mom, this feels like a Disco FEVER party!”  The 2nd Grand Opening Cake from EyeCandy Cakes went fast! At 1pm,things shifted into high gear! The free yogurt news was blasted all over the AIR Ways from KCIL - Country 96.7 and KXOR La 106.3 and there were a couple moments when it looked as if ALL of Houma and Thibodaux was at Orange Leaf.  The line LITERALLY was out the door. People were even sitting outside! (it was a pretty day, though)  Balloons were twisted into mermaids, swords, and even little puppy dogs.  And if that wasn’t enough, The facepainting was the perfect icing on our Grand Opening mix.  Magical Entertainment with Tammy and Frank kept the young entertained, and we even saw a few adult faces resembling lions, tigers, and bears, OH MY!  From the pretty princess fairies, to the cat with a mouse in it’s mouth, it’s hard to describe how AWESOME Tammy and Frank were!  You have to see these pictures to believe it!

TV looks good on TOM!

LIVE Healthy in 2012!

Ever wondered if Frozen Yogurt really is healthier than Ice Cream?  If you said YES, then you would be right!  How do you think ORANGE LEAF FROZEN YOGURT ranks among the competition?  Yes, you are right again.  Orange Leaf maintains the BEST taste, (and it's not even close say our customers), with fewer or equal calories.   Jean in Lake Charles who has been waiting for Orange Leaf #8 to open stated, "Going to Yogurt Mountain is like driving a SABLE while waiting for your BMW to arrive!" Here is how we SHAPE up "officially" against our competition! (Cooking Light-How the Brands Compare August 2011)
•  MENCHIE'S
Plain: 90 calories, 0g fat, 20g carbs (13g sugar) Chocolate: 110 calories, 0g fat, 22g carbs (17g sugar)
•  RED MANGO
Plain: 80 calories, 0g fat, 19g carbs (19g sugar) Cocoa: 100 calories, 0g fat, 23g carbs (22g sugar)
•  YOGURT MOUNTAIN
Plain: 90 calories, 0g fat, 18g carbs (16g sugar) Chocolate: 120 calories, 0g fat, 26g carbs (18g sugar)
•  PINKBERRY
Plain: 100 calories, 0g fat, 21g carbs (20g sugar) Chocolate: 120 calories, 1.5g fat, 23g carbs (15g sugar)
•  YOGURTLAND
Plain: 110 calories, 0g fat, 27g carbs (26g sugar) Dutch Chocolate: 110 calories, 0g fat, 25g carbs (16g sugar)
ORANGE LEAF FROZEN YOGURT
Tart (Plain): 96 calories, 0g fat, 18g carbs(12g sugar) Chocolate: 114 calories, 3g fat, 21g carbs (15g sugar)

While Menchies and Red Mango are somewhat lower in calories(but higher in sugar), it is their taste that suffers the most!  And the nail in the Ice Cream coffin is that a similar serving of premium ice cream is a whopping, 250 calories, 17 grams fat. BAM! TAKE THAT, Ice Cream!

So, after you get your FREAUX YEAUX, where do you go next?  YES, the toppings bar!  This is where your healthy lifestyle could take a turn SOUTH if you aren't careful! Following is a list of 8 HEALTHY suggested Toppings to add to your Orange Leaf Freaux Yeaux.
  1. Strawberries - 1/4 cup of Stawberries = 15 calories
  2. Tropical Treat - 2 Tablespoons of Pineapple + 2 tablespoons Mango + 1 tablespoon shredded coconut = 50 calories
  3. Berry-Nutty - 1/4 cup blueberries + 1 1/2 Tablespoons almonds = 70 calories

Who dat? HOUMA DAT!

Lucky number 7.  Orange Leaf Louisiana's 7th store opened on Thursday, January 5th at 11am in Houma.  It is the first time we instituted the Free Yogurt on the first day and it was a TOTAL success.  Customers showed up with Freaux Yeaux on the brain!  And that turned out to be a good thing, because it was FREE!  The balloons on pinwheels right by the front road brought patrons in that might not have known we were open otherwise and if that wasn't enough, our LEAFERS stood by the road waving Free Freaux Yeaux Signs!

Crowded house!
ALL the schools of Houma were represented; Vandebilt Catholic High, Ellendar, Terrebonne, H.L. Bourgeous, South Terrebone, and many more!  Small children who walked in were already asking their mom's if they could have their next birthday at Orange Leaf.  The Free Yogurt ended at 5, but that did not slow down the crowd.  Just as soon as a table was open, someone sat down in it.
T-Shirts were a big hit! Geaux Freaux Yeaux
Great for Families!

But by far, this picture sums up the day.  This little man is getting every last drop!  He doesn't want to waste any of his Freaux Yeaux!

Thanks, Houma, for letting us know how much you love Orange Leaf!  We love HOUMA, too!

Our Grand Opening CELEBRATION is right around the corner on January 21st with lots of giveaways, games, and prizes!  Stay tuned to our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/orangeleafhouma to stay up to date with all the HOUMA HAPPENINGS!

We just loved this ORANGE Bike that a customer road to Orange Leaf on opening day! We hope it's a sign that HOUMA will love Orange for a long time to come!

A look back at 2011...wonder what 2012 will bring?

WOW! 6 stores open, 2 more to come and that is just the tip of the 2011 iceburg!  Looking back, it seems like a lifetime ago, but at the same time just a moment ago.  How does that happen? It must be because every single, solitary moment of what we call THE LEAF Experience has been a blast and more rewarding than anyone might have imagined.  Getting to know people in 8 different towns in the home that we call Louisiana.  Whether our new friends said, "HEY Ya'll!" or they "Got Down" from the car to grab some Freaux Yeaux, our great state of Louisiana produced patrons that were glad that Orange Leaf had come to their town, regardless if they hailed from the North or the South.

Monroe Ribbon Cutting January 2011

We go back to the beginning, (which really began in December of 2010, & our flagship store in Monroe.  Producing at the TOP of the entire Orange Leaf franchise (75 stores at the time), Monroe was the store to model.  Lines out the door, with yogurt sometimes melting before customers could reach the register, Monroe let everyone know how much they loved The Leaf.

New Iberia Ribbon Cutting May 2011
Following 4 months behind was New Iberia.  Our opening day in New Iberia topped the fleets numbers for opening day outperforming all other opening days including New York City, Little Rock , Arkansas, and Lexington, KY. Cajuns love their Freaux Yeaux, too!

Sulphur followed VERY closely behind New Iberia with it's ribbon cutting in June of 2011.  Sulphur was so happy that Orange Leaf had FINALLY opened and they flooded in as soon as we opened our doors! The Leaf continues to be a destination that Sulphur families choose because it has something for everyone in your family.
Sulphur Ribbon Cutting June 2011
Natchitoches Ribbon Cutting December 2011

Next, was Natchitoches and we never expected the open arms we received by this business community.  Opening day was a hit with everyone bringing in HUNDREDS of Buy One Get One coupons that the local businesses in Natchitoches sent to their own mailing lists in support of Orange Leaf! With Northwestern, Natchitoches Central,  Lakeview High, and St. Mary's students hitting the doors when their own schools let out, it was an opening day to remember.

Mandeville Ribbon Cutting December 2011
Mandeville.  This was the tricky town. Our first time to encounter major competition, and combine that with media outlets in Mandeville, New Orleans and Slidell just to name a few. We finally got our feet on the ground and people in the door at our Grand Opening Celebration with the Saintsations.  Free yogurt helped as well.  We have been building ever since.  As you well know, once they walk into Orange Leaf get THE LEAF experience, and taste our out-of-this-world Freaux Yeaux, there will be only one love, and the color is ORANGE!

West Monroe OPENS November 2011
West Monroe opened to much fanfare in November of 2011.  Balloons, Chalk O and All!  Customers were knocking on the doors to let them in, and so that is just what we did, 45 minutes early and it hasn't stopped since.  It was certainly a WARM welcome to a community that has already had our flagship store in Monroe close by to taste what they were going to have soon in their own city of West Monroe.  The GRAND OPENING and Ribbon Cutting will be held in February right before Mardi Gras and will feature lots of giveaways, included a Kodak Playsport Camera!

Houma 12-29-11
What's next is Houma, opening January 5th (4 more days, YIKES) with free yogurt from 1PM-5PM, Ribbon Cutting is scheduled for January 20th, and Grand Opening Celebration on the 21st which will again feature Free Yogurt from 1PM - 5PM.  We can't wait until these doors open to show HOUMA what Orange Leaf is all about!
Lake Charles Store
Lake Charles will open in late January and Might just be the cherry on top of the Freaux Yeaux Sundae. With Sulphur just 5 miles away, Lake Charles already know what The Leaf Experience is like and they are demanding to know when the doors will open!  Planning on a late January open, this store is poised to break some more Nationwide Orange Leaf records!

So, what will happen in 2012 you might ask?  We can't tell the future, but you better believe that Freaux Yeaux is here to stay and will be in all corners of Louisiana before year end! Where will we be next?  Maybe Ruston, Hammond, even Winnsboro, you never know where the LEAF will show up next!  Happy 2012 and hope to see you soon!
