Call me, DEFINITELY!

By now, most everyone has heard the Carly Rae Jepson song, Call me maybe, right?  Well, if you haven't, then WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?  When you search  "Call me maybe" on GOOGLE, literally hundreds of videos are posted with different people and groups covering (lip-synching) to the catchy tune!

Harvard Baseball Team
It all started with the HARVARD BASEBALL team (except for one player who sleeps through the entire video), doing a COVER to Carly's #1 tune. Billboard.com even put together a TOP 10 List of the BEST Call me maybe Covers!

So, what does ORANGE LEAF do when they see something FUN?  They do it, too! First, it was ICG (our advertising agency) that jumped on the COVER bandwagon!  Very professionally made, and VERY FUNNY, too!

Marked Orange

The word TATTOO is said to have two major derivations - from the polynesian word 'ta' which means striking something and the tahitian word 'tatau' which means 'to mark something'.
In case you don't know, Tattoos are created by inserting colored materials beneath the skins surface. The first tattoos probably were created by accident. Someone had a small wound, and rubbed it with a hand that was dirty with soot and ashes from the fire. Once the wound had healed, they saw that a mark stayed permanently.  In North America, the first permanent tattoo shop in New York City was settled up in 1846 and began a tradition by tattooing military servicemen from both sides of the civil war. Samuel O'Reilly invented the electric tattooing machine in 1891.

A LOT has changed since then.  You can find a Tattoo Parlor/Shop in just about ANY town in the US.  Not only that, but most have a specialty.  From portraits of children or loved ones to chinese dragons, tattoos are as diverse as this nation is!
So, we thought we would search ORANGE TATTOOS.  Who knew so many people loved ORANGE, and so much as to put it on their body for the rest of their life!  From the sliced orange to one that says HOMEGROWN, they are all unique in their own way.
Celtic Knots
This writer is especially interested in Tattoo's rich history, because as of today, I am a NEW owner of my first tattoo!  No, I didn't get an Orange (although I did think about it heavily!), I opted for a symbol of commitment, love, and forever.  Today, 23 years ago, I married my forever and I chose a celtic knot on my ring finger, and bonus, my hubby Tom got a matching one. Maybe for the next one we will get MARKED ORANGE!     Shannon Poole Hagan

Day of...."WHATEVER!"

Have you ever heard of Different Colored Eyes Day (June 12th) or maybe run across National Ugly Truck Day (July 20th)?  It seems like now adays there is a National Day for ANYTHING!  There is actually a website called National Whatever Day that lists some of these days in detail, the how, who, and why the day is celebrated.

At Orange Leaf, we love to celebrate the fun and unusual and try to pick some of these days to share with our customers.    On Friday, we celebrated Cow Appreciation Day, because as everyone knows, without Cows there would be no Freaux Yeaux!  And that brings us to today, Sunday, July 15th.  This is Tapioca Pudding Day, and Pet Fire Safety Day, but we have chosen to celebrate something a little closer to the Orange Leaf Family!  GUMMY WORMS!  Yes, you see them just about everywhere and can find them pretty easily on most of our Louisiana Orange Leaf toppings bars, but don't take these squiggly wiggly's for granted!  You can get them sour or sweet, big or small,  muli-colored or plain, but whatever your choice, they are always yummy!  So, today, on National Gummy Worm Day, if you come in to any of our Orange Leaf Louisiana Stores (Monroe, New Iberia, Sulphur, Natchitoches, West Monroe, Houma, or Lake Charles) and top your Freaux Yeaux with them, you will receive a 20% off card good for your next visit!  Happy National Gummy Worm Day from Orange Leaf Louisiana.

Love Orange Leaf? Prove it!

So, just how much do you love Orange Leaf? Enough to use a Hashtag? The next logical question is how many of you out there know what a HASHTAG is?  Ok, so if you are thinking it is some type of breakfast food, you aren't even in the right ball park!  The # symbol is what is called a HASHTAG in the social media world we call Twitter!  It is used in front of keywords or phrases (such as #iloveorangeleaf) to categorize those tweets and help them show more easily in searches. Hashtagged words can become VERY popular which puts them in the trending topics category.

It's easy to play!  All you have to do is email your Orange Leaf photos or videos to ilove@myorangeleaf.com and use the HASHTAG #iloveorangeleaf to show us some love! You could win lots of different prizes including a birthday party at any of our stores, t-shirts, bracelets, gift cards, or Free Freaux Yeaux!  You could also get featured online!
